Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across northeast Ohio and the Western Reserve

Whole-Home Dehumidifiers

We install and service whole-home dehumidifiers, ducted units that pull moisture out of the air for the entire house instead of one room. Homeowners across Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, New York and West Virginia call us when basements smell damp in July, windows sweat, or the AC runs and the air still feels sticky. If that sounds like your house, call us and we will measure the humidity, look at your ductwork, and tell you what the space actually needs.

What the job involves

A whole-home dehumidifier ties into your existing HVAC system, usually with a supply and return connection to the ductwork, a condensate drain, and its own control so it can run whether or not the furnace or air conditioner is calling. In older houses with retrofit duct runs and low basement headroom, placement takes some thought. We size the unit to the square footage and the moisture load, set the humidity target, and confirm the drain runs downhill to a suitable point.

What we check or install

We start with readings. Humidity in the basement and on the main floor, temperature split at the registers, and a look at how the return side is built. Damp air is often a duct problem or an oversized air conditioner short-cycling before it removes moisture, so we rule that out first. Then we check drain options, electrical supply at the panel, and clearance for filter access. If a unit is already installed, we clean the coil, clear the drain, and verify the control is reading correctly.

How we decide it is the right call

Not every damp house needs equipment. If humidity sits above the mid-fifties for weeks, if you see mold on joists or musty smells that return after cleaning, or if the AC cannot keep up without freezing you out, a dedicated dehumidifier usually makes sense. Sometimes the answer is sealing a crawlspace, fixing a duct leak, or correcting airflow instead. We will tell you plainly which one applies and what we would do in your house.

Whole-Home Dehumidifiers — quick answers

Will my air conditioner already handle humidity?

It removes some while it runs. On mild, muggy days the AC satisfies the thermostat quickly and shuts off before it pulls much moisture, which is exactly when a whole-home dehumidifier earns its place.

Where does the water go?

To a gravity drain, a floor drain, or a condensate pump if there is no downhill path. We check the route during the site visit, since older basements rarely have a drain where we want one.

How much maintenance does it need?

Filter checks a few times through the humid season, a coil cleaning yearly, and a clear condensate drain. We can fold that into a regular HVAC visit so nobody has to remember it separately.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, no air, a smell, a noise, a breaker that keeps tripping. Details on the phone shorten the visit considerably.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, the outdoor unit and the heat exchanger side before naming a cause. You get the finding in plain words, not a parts list you cannot read.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the repair

We explain what failed, what it takes to fix it, and what happens if you wait. Nothing gets replaced without your say so. Most common repairs are handled the same visit.

Why homeowners call us

  • Old housing stock is normal hereBasements with converted octopus trunk lines, ducts retrofitted around joists, returns that were never sized right. We work in these houses constantly and we size the repair to the house you actually have.
  • Long heating seasonsFurnaces in this region run hard from October into April, and lake effect stretches it further. We know what wear looks like at that mileage, from cracked igniters to blower motors that have been dragging for two winters.
  • Cooling and heating bothOne crew for air conditioning repair and heating repair. The same ductwork moves air in July and January, so a technician who understands both sides catches problems a single-season contractor tends to walk past.
  • Plain talk about repair versus replaceSometimes a part fixes it for years. Sometimes you are putting money into a system that is done. We tell you which one we think you are looking at and why, then leave the decision with you.
  • All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York and the rest.
  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
