What the job involves
A UV installation means opening the air handler or furnace cabinet, finding a mounting spot with a clear line of sight to the wet coil surface, and running a safe power feed to the lamp. Ventilation work is different. That is ducted outdoor air, sometimes through an energy or heat recovery unit, tied into your return with a damper and a control. Both jobs end the same way: we run the system, confirm airflow has not been choked, and show you where the lamp or filter sits for later service.
What we check or install
Before anything gets mounted we look at the coil, the drain pan, and the return side of the duct. Older homes across the region often have retrofit ductwork with leaky returns pulling basement air, and no lamp fixes that. We check static pressure, filter condition, and whether the pan is draining. Then we size the lamp to the coil face, or size ventilation airflow to the house. Installed work includes lamp and ballast mounting, sight-glass access where possible, and labeling the replacement date on the cabinet.
How we decide it is the right call
We recommend a UV lamp when there is visible growth on the coil or in the pan and the humidity conditions will bring it back. We recommend ventilation when a house is tight, windows sweat, and stale air lingers with the system off. If the real problem is a plugged filter, a duct leak, or a cracked pan draining into the cabinet, we say so and fix that first. Air quality equipment works on top of a sound system, never in place of one.

How often do UV lamps need replacing?
Most lamps lose useful output after roughly a year of running, even though they still glow. We note the install date on the cabinet and swap the lamp during a maintenance visit so the coil keeps getting treated.
Will a UV light clean the air in my rooms?
A coil-mounted lamp treats growth on the wet coil and drain pan, which is where most musty smells start. It does not disinfect a whole room. Filtration and ventilation handle what is moving through the air.
Do I need ventilation if my house feels stuffy in winter?
Often yes. Tighter homes hold moisture and odors once windows stay shut for a long heating season. We measure and tie in controlled outdoor air rather than leaving you to crack a window.
