What a Ductless Mini-Split Repair Involves
A mini-split is two halves talking to each other, so we diagnose it as one system. We start at the head you are complaining about, check airflow and drainage, then read what the outdoor unit is reporting. Most calls trace back to a clogged condensate line, a fouled blower wheel, a failed control board, a communication fault in the line-set wiring, or a refrigerant charge problem. On multi-zone setups we confirm whether the fault sits in one head or in the shared outdoor equipment before we quote repair work.
What We Check on the Call
We pull the filters and inspect the coil face, because these heads pack a lot of surface into a small cabinet and dust chokes them fast. We flush and test the condensate drain, since gravity drains in retrofit installs often run long and flat. We check the remote and thermostat settings, the breaker and disconnect, low-voltage communication between head and condenser, capacitor and fan performance outdoors, and refrigerant pressures with the system running. We also look at the line-set penetration and insulation, a frequent source of sweating and heat loss in older homes.
How We Decide Repair Is the Right Call
We weigh the age of the system, whether parts are still available for that model, and how many faults are stacking up. A bad capacitor or a plugged drain on an otherwise healthy unit is a straightforward repair. A compressor failure on a system that has already lost charge twice is a different conversation, and we will say so. If a single head is dead on a multi-zone system, replacing that head is often reasonable. You get the findings and the options, and you decide.

Why is my mini-split head dripping water inside?
Usually a blocked condensate drain or a slipped drain line. Water backs up in the pan and spills out the front of the head. Shut the unit off and call us before it soaks the drywall.
One zone stopped working but the others are fine. What does that mean?
That points to the individual head, its control board, or the communication wiring to that zone rather than the outdoor unit. We test that circuit separately so you are not paying to replace shared equipment.
What do the blinking lights on the indoor unit mean?
Each manufacturer uses its own blink pattern to report a specific fault, from sensor failures to refrigerant issues. Count the blinks and tell us when you call. It narrows the diagnosis before we arrive.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, no air, a smell, a noise, a breaker that keeps tripping. Details on the phone shorten the visit considerably.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, the outdoor unit and the heat exchanger side before naming a cause. You get the finding in plain words, not a parts list you cannot read.
- Step 3
You approve the repair
We explain what failed, what it takes to fix it, and what happens if you wait. Nothing gets replaced without your say so. Most common repairs are handled the same visit.

Why homeowners call us
- Old housing stock is normal hereBasements with converted octopus trunk lines, ducts retrofitted around joists, returns that were never sized right. We work in these houses constantly and we size the repair to the house you actually have.
- Long heating seasonsFurnaces in this region run hard from October into April, and lake effect stretches it further. We know what wear looks like at that mileage, from cracked igniters to blower motors that have been dragging for two winters.
- Cooling and heating bothOne crew for air conditioning repair and heating repair. The same ductwork moves air in July and January, so a technician who understands both sides catches problems a single-season contractor tends to walk past.
- Plain talk about repair versus replaceSometimes a part fixes it for years. Sometimes you are putting money into a system that is done. We tell you which one we think you are looking at and why, then leave the decision with you.
- All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York and the rest.
- Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
